Santiago Ixcuintla is a city in the state of Nayarit known for its humid warm climate, which leads to a significantly marked rainfall season between June and October. Notably, July and August are the months with the most rainy days.

During the months of May to October, temperatures are generally highest, with June recording average daytime temperatures of 34 degrees Celsius and nighttime lows around 24 degrees.

The cooler season occurs during winter, spanning December to February. During this period, the maximum recorded temperatures hover around 31 degrees, with minimum temperatures dropping to 15 degrees at night.

Mexico is among the countries boasting the greatest biodiversity globally. Its geographical location grants it a broad spectrum of climates, making it home to approximately 12% of the world’s species (around 12,000 of which are endemic).

The country straddles two significantly contrasting climatic zones divided by the Tropic of Cancer: one being tropical and the other temperate. These two climates intermingle through various oceans and geographical features, leading to diverse weather patterns.

Considering this diversity, it comes as no surprise that in the higher elevations of Chihuahua, temperatures can plunge to -30 degrees, while in the Mexicali desert, they can soar up to 50 degrees.

The nation includes a warm rainy zone encompassing the low coastal plain of the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific, warm-humid and warm sub-humid regions prevalent along coastal plains, the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, northern Chiapas, and the Yucatan Peninsula. Furthermore, dry climates can be found in the Sierra Madre Occidental and Oriental, covering parts of the high basins of the Balsas and Papaloapan rivers, as well as locations in the Yucatán and Chiapas.

The national average temperature is around 19 degrees Celsius; however, cities like Mexicali, Culiacán, Ciudad Juárez, Hermosillo, Torreón, Saltillo, and Monterrey experience extreme high temperatures.

When discussing record temperatures, San Luis Río Colorado, located in Sonora, registered a shocking 58.5 degrees Celsius on July 6, 1966. Conversely, the lowest temperature was recorded on December 27, 1997, in the Municipality of Madero, Chihuahua, with -25 degrees Celsius.

Experts warn that due to climate change, the country will likely face a reduction in annual rainfall alongside a significant increase in temperatures. Recent years have shown severe impacts on farmers and ranchers due to droughts and extreme flooding, while the hot seasons have seen a rise in environmental contingencies in Mexico’s major metropolises, including CDMX and Monterrey.
