Two men and a woman were arrested with an arsenal and tactical equipment after they attacked military personnel in the Aguaruto Syndicate of the municipality of Culiacán, Sinaloa.
The incidents took place on Saturday afternoon while elements of the Armed Forces were conducting security patrols in an agricultural area within Aguaruto. During these operations, they were ambushed by a group of armed civilians.
In response to the threat, the military successfully repelled the aggression and conducted a follow-up operation to capture the attackers, sending additional units to the scene.
The Sinaloa Ministry of Public Security (SSP) reported that two men—one of whom was injured by gunfire—and a woman were apprehended in two separate encounters. They were found in possession of a range of illegal military-grade equipment, including machine guns, long-range weapons, magazines, ammunition, tactical gear, and three motorcycles.
In the initial operation, members of the Mexican Army, along with the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), National Guard (Gn), Secretary of the Navy (Semar), and other security forces, detained the suspect without revealing their identities.
The confiscated weaponry included:
- 7 long weapons
- 2 machine guns
- 1 Barrett .50 rifle
- 2 handguns
- Magazines
- Cartridges
- Steel vests, helmets, and accessories
Additionally, two vehicles with ongoing theft reports and a motorcycle were also seized.
A second tactical maneuver resulted in the apprehension of another aggressor who was found armed with a long weapon and tactical gear during an area reconnaissance.
According to the SSP report, the injured man received medical attention while the apprehended individuals were handed over to the Federal Public Ministry for further legal proceedings.
Another violent confrontation took place on the same morning when elements of the Secretary of the Navy (Semar) were targeted while operating in the municipality of Rosario by a group of armed civilians in a makeshift camp.
The SSP of Sinaloa explained that the individuals opened fire upon noticing the military presence, prompting a reprisal by the armed forces.
As a result, authorities confiscated four long guns, ten magazines, ammunition of various calibers, and a tactical vest. The makeshift camp was dismantled, and the seized materials were turned over to the federal authorities. No arrests were made in this incident.
In light of these escalating confrontations, the ongoing violence underscores the significant challenges faced by security forces in Sinaloa. Criminal organizations continue to engage in armed conflict with law enforcement, making the need for robust security strategies more pressing than ever. As authorities ramp up their operations, incidents like these amplify the conversation around public safety and the complex dynamics of crime in the region. The recent arrests and ongoing investigations reflect a commitment to tackling escalating violence, but the path forward remains fraught with difficulty and danger.
