Magna gas, premium or diesel: the price of fuels changes every day (fourth)

Understanding Fuel Prices: A Daily Concern

“If gasoline goes up, everything goes up,” is a popular saying that reflects the  importance of fuel prices  in everyday life, impacting everyone, regardless of whether they own a vehicle. While drivers feel this impact the most, the rising costs of fuel affect all consumers as increased transportation expenses generally lead to higher prices on goods and services.

Individuals who navigate the highways of Nuevo León, whether commuting to work or conducting business, are especially concerned about  gasoline costs . Therefore, it is crucial to stay updated on fuel prices to avoid unexpected financial hits.

To assist consumers, government agencies such as the  Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE)  and the  Federal Consumer Attorney’s Office (Profeco)  regularly publish updated fuel prices across the nation. For instance, the fuel prices reported for June 27 in Nuevo León are as follows:

  • Magna gasoline average price per liter: 23.698 pesos.
  • Premium gasoline average price per liter: 26.960 pesos.
  • Diesel average price per liter: 25.929 pesos.

These prices are reported by the relevant permit holders in compliance with Agreement No. 041/2018 from the Energy Regulatory Commission.

Factors Influencing Gasoline Costs

The cost of gasoline in Mexico is influenced by various factors, including  reference prices ,  taxes , and  logistics . The  reference cost , which is based on international oil prices, is quoted in dollars globally. Therefore, fluctuations in the exchange rate between the dollar and the peso directly impact the average price of fuels.

During the initial months of the COVID-19 pandemic, international oil prices dropped to historic lows, which led to  significantly reduced fuel costs  until prices stabilized later. Conversely, during the first half of 2022, international oil prices surged, resulting in a dramatic increase in gasoline costs worldwide.

Some countries experienced less severe impacts thanks to government interventions. In Mexico, for example, a subsidy applied to the  Special Tax on Production and Services (IEPS)  helped maintain relatively stable gasoline prices. This subsidy directly influences gasoline pricing and is determined by the  Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) .

Moreover,  logistical factors , such as transportation and storage, can also lead to changes in gasoline prices. When costs associated with transporting oil and refined gasoline rise, consumers face the brunt of those expenses. Additionally, geographical location can further affect prices; areas requiring longer transportation distances generally see higher costs.

Given the rapid changes in fuel pricing, remaining informed is crucial for consumers. Regular updates from governmental agencies provide insights into the current state of fuel costs, ultimately assisting individuals in making informed decisions about their transportation needs and budgeting effectively.

Staying up-to-date with fuel price fluctuations is essential for all consumers. As these shifts can influence the prices of everyday goods and services, understanding the underlying factors can empower individuals to navigate their finances more effectively in an ever-changing economic landscape.
