Last week, five British prisoners of war were released by Russia after negotiations with Ukraine, writes Reuters. One of them was Shaun Pinner. He was captured and sentenced to death by Russian-backed separatists in Donetsk for being a foreign mercenary. – I thought I was going to die. It was hell on earth, says the 48-year-old in an interview with The Sun on Sunday. The newspaper writes that Pinner received an electric shock and was stabbed in captivity. He also had to listen to Abba’s “Mamma Mia” for 24 hours straight. – I will never listen to Abba again. I didn’t like them before, so it was torture, he says. Aiden Aslin, who was sentenced to death at the same time as Pinner, has told The Sun that he was beaten up, stabbed and forced to listen to songs from the Soviet Union 24 hours a day. In 2018, the 28-year-old moved to Ukraine and got engaged to Diane Okovya. He started working for the navy in the country, and fought on the Ukrainian side when Russia invaded the country in February. John Harding was also taken as a prisoner of war in Donetsk and has told Sky News that he was tortured for several days. Harding says that in the worst attack he was lying on the ground with his hands handcuffed behind his back, while guards kicked him in the chest, stomach and face. – A man also jumped on my hips, he says. The 59-year-old says he was in Ukraine to teach Ukrainian soldiers about first aid. Harding has not told about being forced to listen to music.
