Succès Masra, the opposition leader and former transitional Prime Minister of Chad, has declared the start of a hunger strike in response to his detention. He was arrested in mid-May on allegations of inciting hatred and violence on social media following the deaths of 35 individuals during clashes in southern Chad, near the Cameroon border.
Masra’s announcement was made via a letter published by his party, Los Transformadores, on their official Facebook account. In the letter, Masra stated that the hunger strike is "in solidarity with all and in protest against undeserved injustices". He aims to "demand the liberation of the energy of the people trapped in injustices and inequalities."

"The hunger strike is the only means left to me in prison," Masra declared. He emphasized that "freedom does not come free." He continued by saying, "Freedom has a price, a visible or invisible price, but you, the standing people, knew this and still know it." On the 40th day of his arrest, the opposition leader reiterated the circumstances surrounding his detention in his home.
