Directly speaking, the OPPO Watch X2 is arguably one of the best Wear OS smartwatches you can buy right now. Everything we say about it is likely applicable to the OnePlus Watch 3 since they are, essentially, the same watch with minor differences. OPPO has outdone itself with design, display, and performance, solving one of the major issues with Wear OS smartwatches: battery life.
There is an unwritten rule in the world of wearables: you can either have a simpler operating system with outstanding battery life or a more complex, capable one like Wear OS or watchOS that lasts only one or two days at best. However, that’s not the case with the OPPO Watch X2, which combines the best of both worlds thanks to its silicon-carbon battery. Let’s take a closer look at the OPPO Watch X2.

Our Experience with the OPPO Watch X2

Beautifully crafted watch, but somewhat large. | Image: Xataka
Design: All Good. The case of the OPPO Watch X2 is made of stainless steel, and the bezels are composed of a titanium alloy. Simply put, it’s a fairly large watch, measuring 46 x 47 mm, making it unsuitable for all wrist sizes, while weighing approximately 80 grams with the strap. It is comfortable and feels great on the wrist. OPPO has reduced the thickness of the lower casing, allowing the watch to rest more comfortably on the wrist and preventing external light from interfering with the sensor readings.
While it can easily be worn all day, its substantial size makes wearing it at night a little more… let’s say complex. Personally, I find it uncomfortable to wear while sleeping. For sleep tracking, I would recommend a smart ring as a more ergonomic option. Beyond that, I have no complaints.

The Buttons. The upper crown (which also serves as a button) is excellent. Not only does it have a smooth travel and haptic feedback, but it is very responsive. We use it to navigate through the screens and menus or open the app drawer. Thanks to its engravings, we can use it even with dirty or wet hands. The lower button, apart from functioning as a button, is a sensor we will discuss later. It works well, but its design and position make it a bit less ergonomic than it could potentially be.

While functional, a more premium material could have been appreciated. | Image: Xataka
The Strap. This, for me, is the weakest point. Although it’s a fairly standard fluorinated rubber strap, this watch, considering its range and price, deserves a leather strap. In another context, we could argue that the standard 20 or 22 mm pin allows for using any strap we have at home, but unfortunately, the attachment is proprietary, so one has to purchase specific straps. They do exist, but this watch deserves something more premium.
Display: A Joy. The display offers high quality and is protected by sapphire glass. The LTPO AMOLED is large, ensuring pixels are barely visible, providing excellent visibility indoors and outdoors, even under bright sunlight (I live in a sunny area, so I can confirm). Its brightness reaches 600 nits, more than sufficient for everyday use. The peak brightness is 2,200 nits, but this activates only under specific conditions during exercise.
When it comes to customization, there are watch faces for all preferences, and being a Wear OS device allows access to even more options via Google Play Store or through dedicated applications.
Wear OS Comes with Advantages. Having the support of Google is beneficial for functionality and app availability. Simply being able to access Google Play Store for app downloads and Google Pay for transactions gives a clear advantage. However, it does lack the promised integration with Google Gemini. If there’s a device where it would make sense, it’s undoubtedly the smartwatch, which we carry at all times. Unfortunately, it’s still awaited in Wear OS.
The performance of Wear OS is commendable. The most complex operating system is powered by the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1, but the OPPO Watch X2 integrates a dual-processor architecture. Alongside Snapdragon, it also includes a low-energy SOC, the BES2800BP, which powers an RTOS.
Indeed, the watch operates in two modes: “Smart” (with Wear OS) and “Battery Saver” (with RTOS). Activating the second mode disables some functions (everything related to Google, for instance), but greatly extends battery life. This mode activates automatically when the battery reaches 10%.
As for standout features, the watch includes a remote shutter for the camera with real-time feedback (you can see the live image, a nice touch) and a control system. This acts like a joystick that allows you to use the watch as a remote for your phone. For example, you can open TikTok and scroll with your watch instead of your phone screen. Its use is indeed anecdotal, but it’s present.

Lastly, while it’s evident being a Wear OS device, it’s worth mentioning: it is not compatible with iOS. Wear OS only works with Android watches, so if you intended to connect it to an iPhone, unfortunately, it won’t work.
Calls and Notifications. Once again, there is little to criticize. The OPPO Watch X2 provides clear audio, and the microphone quality during calls, while not as good as a mobile phone, is acceptable for short conversations while walking. Regarding notifications, it handles emojis well and allows for voice-to-text replies, quick predetermined responses, or a keyboard input.

Replying to notifications like this is a delight. | Image: Xataka
If I had to pick a few negatives, I would say three things: firstly, I would have loved for the display to light up upon receiving a notification for quicker notification checks. Secondly, I missed a “theater mode” that keeps the watch active while keeping the screen off. Lastly, while it does not impact me personally, I understand that LTE connectivity is crucial for many users, and it isn’t available on this watch.
Health Tracking. OPPO has excelled with the sensor technology in its new watch. The Watch X2 accurately measures heart rate, blood oxygen levels, stress, skin temperature, and sleep. Moreover, it includes three interesting functions: electrocardiogram, arterial health, and respiratory issue detection. Additionally, you can get a comprehensive overview of your health status within a minute.

For this, we’ll utilize the sensor located in the bottom button. Within 60 seconds (even less), the watch analyzes all available parameters and generates a detailed report of your health. While this is merely advisory, it can guide you to make necessary lifestyle changes.

This is how health statistics are displayed. | Image: Xataka
The OHealth app is well-designed and allows for synchronization with Google Health data. Special mention goes to the sleep analysis, which is quite comprehensive (though the snoring analysis should be automatic, like in Samsung watches), along with the ability to track cervical health while wearing headphones. Overall, it is a highly complete device.

Dog Walking Champion in Heavyweight Category | Image: Xataka
Sports Tracking. This device supports a vast range of sports, from popular activities like running, tennis, or swimming, to more peculiar offerings such as kite flying, darts, dog walking (seriously), and cricket. While it lacks paddle sports, most activities are covered, and if your sport isn’t listed, you can always create it in the app.
If you enjoy running, you’ll appreciate the analysis of your posture (ground contact, vertical oscillation, and stride balance). The dual-band GPS is also commendable; OPPO has delivered exceptional stability and precision, and you can even combine the watch’s GPS with your mobile’s to enhance the readings.

It’s not the most advanced watch for athletes by any means, but if you are looking for a smartwatch more focused on lifestyle that can still accompany you in your runs, hikes, or Sunday football matches, this will serve you well.
The Battery. We’re nearing the end and can’t forget what is, for me, the standout feature of this watch: the silicon-carbon battery. This technology has been seen in the OnePlus Watch 3, OPPO Find X8 Pro, OnePlus 13, and OPPO Find N5, and now it arrives at the OPPO Watch X2. Without getting technical, this technology allows for greater capacity in the same size, meaning longer battery life without making devices larger or thicker.

OPPO has achieved impressive results with the Watch X2’s battery. | Image: Xataka
The OPPO Watch X2 features a 648 mAh battery (for context, the Galaxy Watch Ultra has 590 mAh), and according to my usage, it often exceeds four days in smart mode, even approaching the fifth day’s afternoon. This is, without a doubt, the best battery life in its category. With more demanding use, the watch lasts over two days with ease. Activating the energy-saving mode could easily extend battery life to two weeks.
All aspects of the battery are remarkable, including the charging time. The mechanism (a base with pins that only fits in one position) may not be the most elegant, but its charging speed is excellent. The watch takes about an hour to fully charge, which is quite impressive.
Final Thoughts on the OPPO Watch X2

Image | Xataka
Having tested the OPPO Watch X2, I can confidently say that it’s the smartwatch I would buy if I were looking for a high-end watch and money was no object. I would, however, pair it with a leather strap that I would need to purchase separately. Overall, it stands out as one of the best smartwatches released to date, and a strong contender for the best smartwatch of 2025. Of course, it faces competition from its sibling, the OnePlus Watch 3, which is nearly identical and slightly cheaper.
This watch is so comprehensive, well-crafted, and functions so smoothly that it’s hard to find significant downsides. OPPO’s work on this device is exceptional, particularly regarding the battery. Even though it lacks eSIM and its size makes it less comfortable for sleep tracking, those points are insufficient to deter recommending a watch that, in every other respect, shines brightly.
