The content creator has repeatedly highlighted this ongoing situation, asserting that Ortega has neglected various financial responsibilities concerning their children’s upbringing. Just a few weeks ago, she revealed that she aided Ortega by providing funds for their children’s school fees, money that he has yet to reimburse in full.
In her recent updates, Jaramillo expressed frustration that, despite her repeated attempts to reach out, Ortega still hasn’t made an effort to communicate. This lack of response has led her to initiate new legal action.
“I have initiated the child support legal process three times with three different lawyers,” Jaramillo shared, clarifying her choice to switch attorneys after her cases failed to progress. “I thought changing lawyers might improve the situation for my children, but nothing was happening,” she added, underlining her frustration.
Jaramillo went on to say that after exhausting her legal options, she decided to go public with her situation on social media, claiming that the media pressure resulted in some progress. “When I went public for the first time, it had an effect, but Ortega fell back into neglecting his responsibilities,” she lamented.
Recently, Jaramillo shared her grievances, revealing screenshots in which she demanded payment from Ortega, amounting to 7 million Colombian pesos and two months of tuition for their children. In her messages to him, she indicated that she had already covered 17 million pesos corresponding to three months of schooling that he failed to pay, insisting he needs to take responsibility.
The conflict escalated after Jaramillo accused Ortega, currently a player for The Strongest in Bolivia, of inconsistently paying for the children’s education. She stated that he owes payments for February, March, and April, having only made a partial payment before ceasing communication altogether. Expressing her shame for publicizing her predicament, Jaramillo deemed it necessary after receiving no response from her ex-partner.
The monthly tuition obligation amounts to 6,614,000 Colombian pesos, approximately 3,300,000 pesos per child, as stated by Jaramillo. She noted that while Ortega occasionally transferred close amounts, in most cases, his payments were inadequate. “In February and June, the transfers exceeded six million pesos, but in March, his contribution fell below four million,” she recounted.
Ortega’s rebuttal came when he posted receipts of bank transfers on his Instagram stories, attempting to prove that he had provided funds from January 2023 to July 2024. However, these proofs were quickly deleted after a few hours. Ortega claims that banking restrictions from Bolivia hinder his ability to make timely payments.
Jaramillo suggested that Ortega should make payments directly to the school, eliminating any chance for intermediaries. She emphasized that she consistently encounters excuses from the football player, noting that the issue recurs monthly. “Every month is a struggle,” she emphasized, stating that financial support should match the economic capabilities of both parents.
This dispute has sparked a significant debate on social media regarding parental responsibilities and child welfare in the context of separation. Users have commented extensively on the matter, offering varied opinions on whether legal action should be pursued to rectify the situation. Some notable remarks included: “Being a single mother is incredibly difficult, one always makes mistakes” and “Get a lawyer and you will see how he starts paying attention.”
Jaramillo acknowledged that the decision to publicize her struggle arose from her frustration after attempting to resolve it through different methods. “I’m mortified, but I have no other choice… Could you all please speak to the father of my children and ask him to answer?” she implored. Furthermore, she revealed that she has managed the tuition for May and June while Ortega remains unresponsive to her messages and exhibits no willingness to engage in discussions to settle the matter.
As it stands, Michael Ortega has not publicly addressed Laura Jaramillo’s allegations. The situation continues to attract attention from their social media followers, fueling ongoing discourse about child support and the responsibilities of separated parents.
