Understanding the Metrobús: A Key Transportation System in Mexico City
With over 22 million users, the Metrobús is the second most utilized mode of transportation in Mexico City, only surpassed by the Metro System, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).
The Metrobús currently has seven lines: Line 1 operates from Indios Verdes to El Caminero, Line 2 connects Tepalcates to Tacubaya, Line 3 runs from Tenayuca to Pueblo Sta. Cruz Atoyac, and Line 4 provides service from San Lázaro to terminals 1 and 2 of the Mexico City International Airport (CDMX).
Furthermore, Line 5 operates from Río de los Remedios to Preparatoria 1, Line 6 covers the route from Villa de Aragón to El Rosario, and Line 7 goes from Indios Verdes to Campo Marte.
Due to the high demand for this public transport service, the Metrobús has launched a website to inform users about the service status of its lines, offering hourly updates on service types and temporarily closed stations.

Distinctive Features of the Metrobús
Each line comes with a unique number and a distinct color, totaling 125 kilometers and 283 stations, most of which are located within Mexico City’s territory, with a few extending into the State of Mexico.
The current fare for using the Metrobús is $6.00 pesos, irrespective of distance traveled. However, the fare from San Lázaro to either Terminal 1 or 2 of AICM on Line 4 costs $30.00 pesos.
Additionally, the service is free for senior citizens aged 70 and above, individuals with disabilities, and children under five years old.
Regarding transfers, these are complimentary as long as they are made within the first two hours after entering the system and occur in a single direction.
Payments can be made using a special card called “Movilidad Integrada,” which can be purchased at the stations. Users can also utilize electronic wallets, bank cards, contactless cards, and CODI for payment.
The operation hours of the Metrobús are from Monday to Friday, 4:30 AM to 12:00 AM, while on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, it runs from 5:00 AM to 12:00 AM.
The Metrobús employs four types of buses: 1) Articulated buses feature two sections and can carry approximately 160 passengers; 2) Bi-articulated buses have three sections and can accommodate 240 passengers; 3) buses on Line 4 have a capacity of 60 passengers; and 4) double-decker buses on Line 7 can transport 90 individuals.
