In a thrilling finish, Mexican driver Max Gutiérrez achieved his first victory of the 2025 season in the NASCAR Mexico Series during the Ricardo Rodríguez 120 race held on Friday at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City. The event marked the official kickoff of the NASCAR Mexico City Weekend and witnessed a memorable conclusion.
Gutiérrez triumphed over Rubén Rovelo and Enrique Baca after 39 laps on the 3.89-kilometer track, a circuit inspired by the Formula 1 layout but adapted for stock cars. The decisive moment occurred in the GNP Seguros Stadium area, where the young driver executed a perfect overtaking maneuver to secure the victory. The roar of the fans filled the stands as they reveled in the crowning of this historic weekend’s first winner.
“I am very happy for this victory; it is the first of the year and the most special so far. It was a hard-fought race, especially in the last lap, which was intense and fun. I hope this victory serves as a boost for what remains of the season. We gained important points, and now we are aiming for more,” said Max Gutiérrez in the post-race press conference.
Rubén Rovelo, who finished in second place, recognized the race’s intensity and highlighted this date’s special significance.
“We all compete for victory, especially on such a significant date, and we wish to be on the podium. My desire was to win, and now we will seek the triumph.” Rovelo is already preparing for his participation in the NASCAR Xfinity Series on Saturday, where he will share the track with Mexicans Daniel Suárez and Andrés Pérez de Lara.
Meanwhile, Enrique Baca took home third place and stressed the importance of this event for national motorsports.
“This weekend is a showcase for us. The NASCAR Mexico Series is a talent breeding ground, and being on the radar of teams from the United States is a dream.”
Action will continue on Saturday with the Pedro Rodríguez 60 race, honoring the first Mexican to compete in the NASCAR Cup Series in 1959. This second competition will reunite top national drivers, promising even more excitement for motorsport fans.
