MHP Visits DEM Party: A Lighthearted Encounter
Recently, a delegation from the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) visited the Democracy and Progress (DEM) Party to celebrate the festival of sacrifice (Kurban Bayramı). The MHP’s Deputy Chairman Sadir Durmaz , along with General Chairman Senior Advisor Esma Özdaşlı and MYK member Şahin Kartal , brought a light touch to the event with a playful quip regarding tea.
Humor Breaks Tension
During the visit, as the tea was being served, Durmaz requested a ” light tea .” He humorously added, “If I say I don’t drink strong tea, I might be misunderstood.” His remark prompted laughter from both delegations, highlighting the importance of camaraderie even amid political discussions.
This visit was not just about social pleasantries; it was filled with serious discussions on the state of the nation. Durmaz emphasized that “for 40 years, Turkey has been shackled by terrorism,” calling for a collective effort to move forward.
Building a Terror-Free Turkey
Durmaz articulated the need for a terror-free Turkey , highlighting that children born into this environment—who are now adults—should not have to face the repercussions of violence. He insisted on nurturing the brotherhood that has thrived amidst adversity, referencing the many mixed-heritage marriages that have occurred over the decades.
“We must not allow ourselves to be divided,” he stated, referencing the quote from the late Ziya Gökalp , who famously said, *“For every Kurdish person I sought, a Turk emerged.”* This sentiment underscores the belief in a shared destiny between different ethnicities within the country.
Collaboration in the Grand Assembly
Durmaz and his colleagues discussed the anticipated parliamentary commission that would be formed to tackle issues surrounding national unity and Peace Process . Tiryaki noted that the MHP is well-prepared for this initiative, indicating that discussions around the formation of this commission have already been extensive.
He explained, “It is crucial for all parties to be included in these discussions. The current Make-up of the Assembly represents over 95% of the electorate.” This inclusion approach highlights the goal of uniting various political parties to foster agreement on key national issues.
Shared Aspirations for a Unified Future
Durmaz highlighted the importance of having a shared vision for Turkey’s future. He communicated the sentiment that as long as good intentions exist, it is possible to resolve various issues through discussions and consensus. He emphasized that the goal should not merely be political expediency but working together for the betterment of all citizens.
Both leaders agreed that the establishment of this commission would bring clarity regarding who genuinely supports the initiative and who may have ulterior motives.
A Call to Action Post-Festival
As the Bayram festivities concluded, Durmaz expressed hope that concrete steps would be taken moving forward. “With the formation of this commission, we will have a platform where everyone’s voice can be heard,” said Durmaz, echoing the need for transparent dialogue in the political landscape.
The visit underscored a significant moment in Turkish politics, blending humor with serious discussions about unifying the country in light of shared challenges. Both parties left the meeting looking forward to a collaborative effort to resolve longstanding issues and enhance unity within the diverse fabric of the nation.
