It’s a recurring question for fans of “Les Inconnus.” This time, it’s Pascal Légitimus, currently starring in the play “Le Bémol,” who addresses the elephant in the room: when will the beloved French comedy trio make a comeback? He talks about this in detail in an interview with “Le Parisien.”
In an interview with Le Parisien for the promotion of his show Le Bémol at the Variétés Theatre in Paris, Pascal Légitimus elaborated on the potential return of “Les Inconnus.” It is well-known that a film is in the works with comic book writer and director Riad Sattouf, but the project is still under consideration. “We haven’t signed a contract yet,” explains the unforgettable character from the Trois frères, who feels that the announcement was made too soon and that Sattouf’s script is not yet complete. The proposed title, Le Grand Départ, also remains unofficial.
One thing is certain: the prospect of reuniting with his pals Didier Bourdon and Bernard Campan brings immense joy to Pascal Légitimus. He expresses a preference for a theatrical comeback, as he stated to Le Parisien: “I would love to do a play, which we’ve never done…” It may not necessarily be a project signed by Les Inconnus; he is open to creating something completely different to avoid comparisons with their classic work. Légitimus has a treasure trove of ideas – “I even thought of a musical show with our songs, like in 2019 with the Enfoirés, where we would sing a few sketches for an hour. But I’m just one-third of the team.”
However, Bernard Campan is hesitant to return to the comedy style that brought them fame decades ago: “He doesn’t want to do sketches, not to repeat what has already been done. I told him: ‘Don’t do it for yourself, but for the people. We don’t care about ourselves; let’s do it for them while we’re still young and energetic. It’s so rare in a career to be adored like this; we must take advantage of it… I find it indecent, actually. We’ve worked hard to get here, and now that we are, we act like, ‘Yeah, I’m not sure. Nah. Do you want some caviar? No…’”
Pascal Légitimus respects his friend Bernard Campan’s position. “At one point, I wanted to start a hashtag #BernardCampanReviens. But I understand his desire to pursue other avenues,” he admits. This may stem from a fear of not meeting audience expectations. The reception of the sequel to Les Trois frères, especially by critics, might also have made an impression.
Didier Bourdon shares Pascal’s sentiments. On RTL in 2023, he stated a similar viewpoint: “He’s a bit scared, but I admit that we all have a bit of fear. If he has fear, there’s probably a valid reason for it. I also have reservations because I want to go back, but I’m sure that if we ever return to the stage, he will jump right in; I know him well.”
