Turkey’s First Floating Natural Gas Production Platform, Osman Gazi, Sets Sail

In a significant milestone for Turkey’s energy sector, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan formally sent off the country’s first floating natural gas production platform,  Osman Gazi , from the  Dolmabahçe Working Office . During this ceremonial event,  Energy and Natural Resources Minister  Alparslan Bayraktar was present, lending further importance to the occasion.

The event was highlighted by a performance from a  Mehter Band , further adding cultural significance to the ceremony, attracting attention from various dignitaries including  President of Galatasaray Club , Dursun Özbek, and the  Communications Director of the Presidency , Fahrettin Altun.

Message of Good Fortune

During the farewell ceremony, President Erdoğan took a moment to speak with the platform’s captain via phone. His genuine interest was evident as he personally connected with the crew, conveying encouragement for their mission ahead.

Afterward, Erdoğan set sail on a boat to closely inspect the  Osman Gazi  platform. While communicating with the ship’s captain via radio, a light-hearted exchange took place, showcasing the camaraderie between the President and the crew.

The captain expressed gratitude, saying, “Thank you very much, Mr. President. You honor us. May God bless you.” Erdoğan replied with encouragement, “However, you are moving too slowly; please speed up.” In response, the captain assured, “We are accelerating right away, transitioning to full speed.”

Following this exchange, Erdoğan wished them well: “May your journey be safe, and we anticipate a bountiful supply of natural gas from Sakarya.”

Successful Passage Through the Bosphorus

The  Osman Gazi  platform successfully completed its passage through the  Bosphorus  strait, all thanks to the coordination of the  Istanbul Maritime Traffic Services Center . Numerous support vessels, including a  Nene Hatun Emergency Intervention Ship , seven tugboats, and a rapid response boat, ensured a safe transition.

As fate would have it, this notable send-off coincided with the  anniversary of Istanbul’s conquest . The  Osman Gazi  is expected to dock at  Filyos Port  on June 1, a further enhancement to Turkey’s burgeoning natural gas sector.
