The number of injured is currently uncertain. AFP reports that eight people are injured, while Reuters quotes the Berlin fire brigade as saying that there should be around 30 people injured. Berlin police have arrested the man who allegedly drove into the crowd, reports Reuters. It is currently uncertain what is the background to the incident. According to the German newspaper Bild, it was a smaller Renault that drove into the crowd. The driver of this car has been arrested. A number of heavily armed police officers are on the scene, in addition to around 60 fire engines and ambulances. The incident took place on Rankenstrasse, right next to the Breitscheidplatz shopping district. It was also here that a terrorist attack took the lives of eleven people at Christmas time in 2016.
