The Trials of Fernando Alonso This Season

This season has been a rollercoaster for  Fernando Alonso , a veteran driver in Formula 1. Throughout  eight Grand Prix , Alonso has faced challenges that left him  without points . Heading to his home race at the  Circuit de Barcelona , he finds himself with a points tally of  zero . However, Alonso is keen to clarify that the situation is not a result of his performance but rather issues stemming from his car. “This is not bad luck,” he stated after the  Monaco GP .

Unexpected Turn of Events

At the Monaco Grand Prix, Alonso had to retire on  lap 36  while running in  sixth place . His impending pit stop would have dropped him to  eighth , which is less than optimal for a driver of his caliber. From lap  15 , he started experiencing significant issues, particularly with the  battery , which severely limited his vehicle’s power. Despite this handicap, Alonso hoped to secure a top-ten finish, marking his first points of the season.

Engine Troubles and Power Loss

Alonso detailed his struggles stating, “I had a problem with the  engine  since lap 15. I was running without electrical power, similar to how  Ricciardo  was in 2017, missing about  160 horsepower . In Monaco, power isn’t as crucial, so my lap times were still reasonable. I dreamed of a  sixth position . It might not have been possible, but I felt good until the engine failed.”

Collective Responsibility

Reflecting on the weekend, Alonso summed it up as a missed opportunity. He emphasized the need to share responsibility, pointing fingers at both his team and  Mercedes , the supplier of their  motors . “When everything goes wrong from the start, it’s not just luck at play. This time, it wasn’t a safety car at the worst moment or a meteor falling from the sky. The engine was not adequately prepared for this race, and we couldn’t finish.”

Maintaining Motivation Amidst Adversity

Despite the setbacks, Alonso maintains his motivation and confidence in his skills as an F1 driver. He expressed, “I have no doubts about myself as a driver, but it’s good to achieve a decent result now and then. It makes you return to the gym with a smile and greater motivation. Unfortunately, in my case, there are no good news; hence, I must hit the gym tomorrow and keep doing well.”

Special Shifts and Opportunities in Monaco

In a unique twist, Alonso regarded Monaco as a special race that demands a unique set of skill. “If I didn’t have points for hitting the wall or causing an accident, I would be frustrated. But I feel relaxed at a high level, and I am waiting for my opportunity,” he remarked. Even at  43 years old , he shows no signs of giving up.

Future Aspirations and Changing Trends

Looking ahead, Alonso considers the *negative momentum* of this season to be acceptable as long as it leads to positive changes. “I would be happy if this season goes on like this so that I can win in  Australia in 2026 . Accumulating eight points or 22 points this season does not affect me, but next year we aim to fight for the championship with the  regulatory changes . Thus, I am fine with all the retirements we’ve faced this year.”

Concluding Thoughts on Resilience and Future Plans

In summary, Alonso’s outlook reflects resilience and determination in the face of adversity. As he prepares for his home race, it’s clear that his experience and strategy as a seasoned driver will play a significant role in how he navigates the rest of the season. While the challenges have been formidable, Alonso remains focused on turning the tide in his favor, eagerly waiting for the day he can celebrate his return to the top of the standings.
