– No one is perfect, I just had to lay flat. It was I who had “shit” me out, says Olsen to news. The contrasts have been great for the motorsport profile in the past year and a half. On Saturday, Olsen took a huge scalp when he won the sprint race in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM). No Norwegian has previously won in the prestigious championship, which is based in Germany and organizes races all over Europe. But we won’t be going back until the autumn of 2020 before things were turned upside down. Helga’s splashes of champagne and roars of jubilation were felt far away when he was involved in a sporting scandal. Now, for the first time, Olsen speaks out about the storm that affected him. Last year, news mentioned that the motorsport athlete was stopped by the police when he was driving at 77 kilometers per hour in a 50 zone in Sarpsborg – where he had his driver’s license revoked on the spot. For two weeks after the incident, he nevertheless took part in an international car race, even though the regulations state that athletes who are disqualified from driving also lose their licence. – I regret that, and I lie completely flat, Olsen said at the time and admitted that he did not have enough knowledge of the regulations surrounding his licence. The 26-year-old now says that he has grown a lot since the incident. – It was tough, but I have come out of it well in a way. I have learned and grown from it. I came out of it as a better person, because I learned from my mistakes, he says. – What was it like to stand in it? – It wasn’t anything cool. Lately, the Norwegian racing driver has been doing great. – One makes mistakes now and then – everyone does. One has to move on and learn from it. I have done that. I have come through it in a good way, I know, and am taking further steps in my career. He clearly showed that on Saturday. Olsen had the best starting track and water at the end on the Spa track in Belgium. Despite the rain at the end, the 26-year-old was in good control and took what he refers to as the biggest victory of his career. – It was very special. In such a prestigious championship, it is one of my absolute biggest victories. Climbing in summary – It was very wonderful. It has been a bit tough season, but the last few races have been good, says Olsen. The triumph means that the Norwegian takes the step up to 4th place in the championship overall. It says that there are two races of the edition in the DMT season. – The ambitions are to continue trying to win and have good results. We have built up well throughout the season, and are potential candidates to win races. Now there are two race weekends left, and we will be “gunning” in every single race.
