Residents’ Perspectives on Traffic Conditions

During a visit to the area, I spoke with several residents and business owners to understand the realities they face while navigating Beck Road.

“It’s an **issue**. But we try to adapt to it as best we can,” said **Megan Reaume**, a manager at **Sandstone Therapeutic Massage**. Having worked there for thirteen years, she noted the changes over time and commented, “It gets really **backed up**, even all the way to **Taft Road**. So, it’s definitely become more congested in recent years.”

Reaume added that this congestion affects her business, especially since their operations are **appointment-based**. “We have clients who call in saying they’re going to be late because Beck Road is so congested,” she explained.

Similarly, **Austin Kasha**, the owner and an optometrist at **Beck Eyecare**, has also felt the ramifications of this growing issue. “I’ve lived in this area for about 12 years. Twelve years ago, the one-lane road was manageable. Now, it’s not,” Kasha pointed out.

He added that the **noise pollution** has become a pressing concern for local residents. “Now, you’ve got houses whose driveways are on Beck or their backyards are on the road, and they have to deal with noise, dust, and heavy traffic. It’s going to be rough for them to pull out of their driveways,” he expressed.

City Officials Addressing the Situation

Connecting with **Jeffrey Herczeg**, the **director of Public Works** for the city of Novi, he emphasized the need for an **environmental assessment**. The assessment will cover the stretch from **9 Mile Road to Pontiac Trail**. However, he pointed out that the project lacks full funding.

“Currently, there is funding in place: **$4.7 million** for the segment from **11 Mile to Grand River**,” Herczeg stated. His department is aware of the urgent need for further improvements and understand the goals of the public meeting. This gathering aims to complete the assessment and move forward with crucial projects and funding.

“Estimates for the costs range between **$10 to $12 million per segment** from **9 Mile to Pontiac Trail**. This does not even include the rail crossing, which could be an additional **$30 million project**,” he added.

Community Feedback and Future Actions

Residents are encouraged to engage with the ongoing planning by visiting becktothefuture.org. Alongside this, they can provide crucial feedback that will guide the future of Beck Road and alleviate congestion issues.

The **public meeting** represents a vital step toward addressing the growing traffic problems along Beck Road. Community involvement will be integral to achieving a resolution for everyone involved, as the pressure continues to mount on this aging infrastructure.
