The festive day for rural pride got a sad start when someone had teared down the rainbow flag in Ørsta and Volda. – That some tears down pride flags are reprehensible, but unfortunately not surprising. Both because it has happened before, but also because the debate has become sharp and more polarized, says Nyvald’s deputy in the Green Party, Jonas Nilsen. Nilsen is aiming for a point of view at the Christian People’s Party that recently went in to ban rainbow flags at schools. The party wants only Norwegian, Sami and Kven flags to be allowed on public schools’ flagpoles. – I believe that the KrF has a special responsibility for the debate being so. They used their national meeting to attack the rainbow flag as a gathering symbol, says Nilsen. – Bomshot party owner in the Christian People’s Party calls this complete bomb shot. -KrF’s proposal is in line with the Norwegian flag policy that there was cross-political time until 2021. It is absolutely meaningless to claim that this is the reason for the sad, downward and illegal vandalism in Volda, says Dag-Inge Ulstein. Dag-Inge Ulstein during KrF’s national meeting in April. Amundsen / NTB will fight for the rainbow flag Nilsen believes that when pride markings are attacked like in Volda, politicians should rather gather to defend the right to be themselves and love it one will. – We at MDG promise that we will take the fight for all rainbow flags to get waist in peace, both in Norwegian school gardens and all other cities. Neither thugs that tear down the flag nor the KrF ban will change it. – Split and polarizing rhetoric Ulstein replies that the Norwegian flag is gathering and inclusive. – MDG’s rhetoric, on the other hand, is divisive and polarizing. Meaning measurements show that KrF’s proposal is something that a large part of the Norwegian people agree. Does that mean that all these people are against love, diversity or the rights to the slice? No, of course not, replies Ulstein. Every year there are discussions associated with the rainbow flag. Why it? And where does it come from? Published 11.05.2025, at. 08.23
