In a letter on May 6, the committee leader, Høyres Peter Frølich, asks the Minister of Defense to answer whether it is true that the project is delayed. The new Ramsund base will be central to the defense of the northern areas. 100 specially trained soldiers and advanced ships were to be established by 2026. In the letter, Frølich also asks Defense Minister Tore O. Sandvik from the Labor Party to answer when the government was made aware that the project could be delayed. The answer will be decisive for whether the Ramsund delay will end up on the Control and Constitution Committee’s table. To news, Frølich points out that the Storting has received what he refers to as trail reports that the military prestige initiative has been on route. – The parliamentary majority has believed it, assumed it, he says. This is contrary to what the Storting has been informed about. – It is one and a half years until this should be clear. So then it is the task and responsibility of the control committee to find out what is status, and possibly why the Storting has not been informed, says Frølich. He points out that the planned department for the marine hunters in Ramsund is important, and a cornerstone throughout the defense initiative in the north. – It has been a clear prerequisite for the Storting for many years that a new intervention squadron will be put up there, and that it requires both investments and developments in Ramsund. To news, he says that it is about forming a timeline and getting facts in place about what has been done to realize the Storting’s decision in 2020 to expand Ramsund. – What has been done to fulfill the will of the people? And when has it been done? It is also important with regard to the duty of information that the government has to the Storting. They are obliged to inform about both status, and truthfully provide information on status, progress and any delays, says Frølich. The answers the Minister provides will be of great importance to whether the committee will be dealing with the Ramsund case. – Yes, simple and easy. It will form the basis. Then we have to look over the information we get and make up our mind about this. There, there may be grounds for establishing a matter of control against the government’s handling, says Frølich. The effort force Special Operations Task Group (SOTG) was to be completed and operational in Ramsund in Troms in 2026, said the Storting in 2020. Ramsund is also part of Norway’s defense agreement with the United States. Frølich is aware that if the government has misinformed the Storting then there is a violation of the Constitution, and very serious. – But I want to emphasize that we do not know if this is the case, he says. Frølich says that the government must now formally respond to the Storting, point by point, what has happened and what has been done. – And what has not been done and why we have not received information if it proves to be a great delay. Trygve Slagsvold Vedum was asked about the Ramsund case when he visited Alta this week. Photo: Hanne Larsen / news Vedum: Must have progress The Storting’s control and constitution committee ensures that the government is following up on what has been adopted by the Storting. Several parliamentary politicians have argued that the Ramsund case should be food for the committee. Among them Left’s Guri Melby, Frps Per-Willy Amundsen and Rødts Seher Aydar. Sp leader Trygve Slagsvold Vedum, a member of the Storting’s Foreign and Defense Committee, points out that the Chief of Defense basically did not want the Ramsund project. – But then it has been a political priority. This has now been adopted in the long -term plan. Then you have to have the fastest possible progress. Vedum believes that politicians must now look more closely at whether the matter should be dealt with in the Storting’s control and constitution committee. He points out that the defense budget is more than doubled. – Then you have to go for some projects and see if there is necessary progress. Whether it is the Defense Committee or the Control and Constitution Committee, we will come back to, says Vedum. news has been in contact with the Ministry of Defense in connection with this case. Defense Minister Tore O. Sandvik does not yet want to comment until the answer has been sent to the Control and Constitution Committee. Published 09.05.2025, at. 06.10 Updated 09.05.2025, at. 11.54
