The indictment that was published on Friday states that Suel Kassembo has worked for the local company Round Environmental Center for 12 years from March 2011 to May 2023. Prosecutor thinks that the company has broken the Immigration Act by appointing someone who does not have a legal stay in the country, and demanded NOK 300,000. He claims he came from the village of Buyenzi in Burundi and that both parents and sister were killed just before he left. Kassembo stated that he was 16 years old and did not have relatives alive in his homeland. If he had been believed to do this, he would have been staying in Norway he was rejected asylum in January 2007, and was expelled in 2010. He also was also rejected on a unemployment rate. More complaints have not changed this. The authorities do not trust his history. They think he is older than he says and comes from neighboring Tanzania, not Burundi. He has stayed illegal in the country since he was rejected, mostly in Søre Sunnmøre. The authorities also claim that he has bid at a hidden address. Recently, he presented paper that he thinks documents both age and the country he comes from. The authorities do not trust that the document is real, but still states that they will send him back to Burundi. In August 2023, he was arrested by the police to be sent out of the country. Only hours before the plane went, he was allowed to consider the court assessing his case. It happened in Oslo District Court in November. Supporters have raised money for trial. Over 10,000 people have signed a call for Kassembo to stay in Norway. Now the Oslo District Court has stated that the decision to the Immigration Board is correct and that Kassembo must leave the country. Borgarting Court of Appeal dealt with the appeal case in mid -October and did not give him. Professor of Law calls Bota sensational law professor Mads Andenæs is not enthusiastic about the cure from the police and says the company has taken on a corporate social responsibility by appointing Suel Kassembo. They think the police should intervene earlier and advised the city to give what he calls a “record fine”. – It is startling that they now intervene after so many years, he says and adds: – That you should have this type of record fine I find very difficult to understand. There is simply poor judgment and misunderstood interpretation of political signal. – But shouldn’t the promise promised? – Round Environmental Center has here to do well, help in a difficult situation, and then it is important that the governing powers intervene and guide earlier and do not only only patches with NOK 300,000 after so many years. He thinks the police show poor judgment by first fine the company, and then travel the case to court.
