Parked car drove off by itself – I thought some colleagues were joking with me – news Sørlandet – Local news, TV and radio

– There are still some who doubt it, says prison officer Ole Gunnar Selås. He owns the 20-year-old Toyota that he took for a drive – all by himself. After the end of the working day, the owner also thought that there were rampages on the way, when the silver-grey Land Cruiser was not where he had parked it. – I thought some colleagues were fooling around with me. Barely 100 meters away, the car stood with its front end into the wall of one of the prison’s warehouse buildings. Car owner Ole Gunnar Selås thought someone had played tricks on him and moved the car, until surveillance footage came to light. This is how the starter could have started, says Selås. The car, which was parked with the handbrake on, crossed a small lawn and went over the curbs in the parking lot. A possible explanation is that the grounding cable has come loose and started the starter motor. Photo: Asbjørn Odd Berge / news Technical consultant Tom André Nilsen in NAF has no explanation to offer, he says to the magazine Motor. – I have never heard of anything like this before. I have no other possible explanation than that the starter motor somehow connected, and then pulled the car off. The speed is stable and low throughout, and in principle you can drive cars with the starter alone, says Nilsen. There was only a scratch on the cow catcher after the remarkable drive. The car came out of the incident almost unscathed – only a small scratch on the bumper testifies to the remarkable drive. Photo: Asbjørn Odd Berge / news Are you joking here? – “Do you know the car well enough? Could someone have moved in here?” are questions that have come, says Selås. Some have joked about the power of spirits. – I can feel if there are any vibrations here that come from other quarters than the machinery, jokes the car owner.
