Ahmed al-Charaa needed to achieve a political blow to breathe his presidency, after the killings perpetrated against civilian civilians in the hands of the Syrian security forces. The commander of the Syrian democratic forces (FDS, predominantly Kurdish), Mazloum Abdi, offered the Syrian acting president a victory to claim, by coming to sign in Damascus, Monday, March 10, a historic agreement providing for integration within the State of all the civil and military institutions under the Kurdish autonomous administration in northeast.
This agreement, signed under mediation of the United States, is a strong signal of unity the day after an unprecedented attempted destabilization of the Damascus authorities by the supporters of the former fallen president, Bashar al-Assad. He rejects them “Calls for division”while the new power, from the Islamist factions which overthrew Mr. Assad on December 8, 2024, struggles to impose his authority on the whole country. It goes against pressures, which are exercised, in particular from Israel and Iran, to sharpen the internal divisions. Coinciding with the announcement of the signing of the agreement, the Israeli strikes targeted, on Monday evening, military positions in the north of the province of Deraa, in South Syrian.
