– The brothers are satisfied with the verdict. They are both relieved and satisfied, says their lawyer Nicolai V. Skjerdal. For several years, the brothers Magnus and Lars Peder Holøyen were unknowingly registered as mentally disabled in Tolga municipality in Hedmark. Now they have won in their lawsuit against the state. – Today we have received a very thorough verdict which is clear in its assessments and conclusion that a serious injustice has been committed against the brothers. Two of the brothers are awarded NOK 100,000 in compensation each, and coverage of legal costs of NOK 623,750. The Ministry of Justice and Emergency Preparedness is being sued by the brothers due to the adoption of a guardianship order. Skjerdal says the sentence in itself is reparation for the brothers. – It establishes and demonstrates the many mistakes and failures committed by the State, he says. In 2018, VG revealed that Lars Peder and Magnus Holøyen had been registered as mentally disabled by the municipality without having the diagnosis. They were then placed under guardianship against their will. Afterwards, it was unclear who was to be held responsible. Published 16.12.2024, at 14.52 Updated 16.12.2024, at 15.17
