Criminals who steal jet skis, boats and outboard engines have ravaged the skerries between Kragerø and Larvik. During an operation on Sandøya outside Porsgrunn today, the police found three stolen boats, a floating jetty, two boat engines and 40 grams of amphetamine. The action came as a result of the police’s increased focus on thefts in the skerries, says police inspector Annie Sandersen in the South-East police district. – Two of the boats were not insured and have been returned to the aggrieved in the case, she says to news. The police in Grenland have also seized ten bicycles, three propellers, a new mobile phone and a wallet. – There are great values in the boats and bicycles, says Sandersen, but they do not currently have an exact amount. Two people are charged in the case, one of them has been arrested and is being considered for custody. The police do not have figures on the number of thefts of outboard engines, but a total of 309 boats were stolen in Norway in 2021. 103 of them in the South-East police district. Most of the thefts took place in Telemark. The police told news in early May that they suspected who could be behind many of the thefts. – These are cases that concern most people and it is important for us to get results in such cases, Sandersen says. The person who was arrested today must not have appointed a defender at his own request, according to the police attorney.
