Therese Johaug was superb at the joint start at Lillehammer last weekend. Radiantly satisfied, she posed for an interview with the press, but not alone. She carried her daughter Kristin (1) on her arm. Dad Nils Jakob Hoff had followed the race with his daughter, but had to rush off to remove a wrongly parked car. Then Kristin had to go with her mother to the victory interview. – It wasn’t quite the plan, you have to say, says Johaug ahead of the World Cup weekend in Davos in Switzerland. – Will this be the last time she appears on TV? – Yes, we can hope so. Screening the daughter How much should one expose children to the public, if at all, is a topic that many parents of young children can relate to. Especially with social media, it is easier for what was previously private to become public property. Johaug has 471,000 followers on Instagram, but if you scroll through the pictures, you won’t find one of his daughter’s faces. MEETING: Johaug holds his daughter after the race in Lillehammer. Photo: NTB It is a conscious choice on the part of the parents. – We have chosen, at least until now, not to post so many pictures. But I have a lot of respect for both, sort of. You just have to find your own way there. Suddenly we are also doing it ourselves, but until now we have not done it, says Johaug. Coincidence would have it that the debut in public came in an interview with TV 2. It was not planned, but Johaug has low shoulders in the aftermath of the incident. – After all, we said that press people and photographers should not use her face. It’s a bit of a thing that pictures can be used again and again quite a few times later, too, once you’ve agreed to it. – There was something that happened on the sideline there that you had absolutely no control over. But I think it’s going well, sort of. I am very relaxed about it, says Johaug. The family with the Davos national team stays at the luxurious Alpen Gold hotel in Davos. Ahead of the press conference, Johaug’s husband strolled through the lobby with a sleeping daughter in his carrier. The family has come with Johaug to Davos, which entails previously unknown situations for the cross-country star when she is at work. Before training, she had to sing and dance to “Bæ, bæ lille lam” in the hotel room. – There is always a bit of entertainment that must be kept for a one and a half year old girl. Then you have to be inventive, laughs Johaug. – It is very nice that they joined. The mother’s heart knows that she needs to be with Kristin a little. VICTORY: Will there be more cheers for Johaug in Davos? Photo: NTB The World Cup weekend in Davos begins with team sprints on Friday and sprints on Saturday. Only on Sunday will Johaug be in action, then in a 20 kilometer classic. The 36-year-old has plans to get all the way out there, because she has missed that after the comeback. – That is perhaps where I feel that I have been missing the last little spark. The thing about going all out. It goes quickly, there’s nothing wrong with that, but it’s the feeling of going all out. That you fight properly with it yourself and lactic acid. That it is far up the neck, she describes. You can listen to the weekend’s race from Davos on news Radio. Get an overview of the program here.
