– It is gratifying when we make such seizures, says area manager Asle Farberg at the customs station at Svinesund. It was at 04.30 on Monday morning that customs officials became suspicious of a foreign trailer that came across the border from Sweden. – We are extra attentive in the early morning hours. Those who smuggle may think that there is less control then, but we know very well that there is reason to be vigilant then, says Farberg. The number of cigarettes corresponds to over one hundred thousand 20-packs of smoke. – For this, more than NOK 2 million should have been paid in fees, says Asle Farberg. Driver in custody The driver, a man in his 40s from Eastern Europe, has been arrested by the police and taken into custody. He will be questioned throughout the day. Farberg confirms that this is a large seizure that has been made. – It is an unusually large seizure, quite simply, he concludes.
