Thirteen bridges were thoroughly investigated in 2016. The background was that the Perkolo bridge at Sjoa had collapsed in February that year. In addition, in the same month, faults were found with the similar Sundbyveien bridge. Twelve bridges were inspected, and in the report the Norwegian Road Administration made comments in connection with two of them. The two bridges were Tretten and Sundbyveien. Regarding the Tretten bridge, the Road Administration wrote that no significant faults had been discovered. What they had found were a few major excesses in relation to new regulations. In conflict with the new regulations The report points out that there was nothing wrong in building the Tretten bridge according to the requirements of the old regulations, even though a new one had been introduced. The old regulations were called NS 3470. The new one was called Ek5. The new regulations Ek5 were introduced eight years before the Tretten bridge was opened on 5 July 2012. The Swedish Road Administration points out in the report that projects started with NS 3470 could be completed with these regulations. – So both were valid for a period. NS 3470 was mainly used until it was no longer permitted, writes the Swedish Road Administration. What they found The main finding for the Swedish Road Administration during the inspection in 2016 has to do with something called dowels. In short, a deep part is a connection between two pieces of wood. The connection helps to transfer energy. – The inspection discovered some dowels that were too short in diagonal 5. The diagonal is in pressure and transfers the forces when laid directly. The too short dowels have little significance for the capacity, but have been ordered to be replaced, the inspection report states.
