In the presidential election in Romania, the pro-Russian candidate Calin Georgescu leads. When 98.6 percent of the votes have been counted in the first election round, Georgescu has 22.59 percent. AFP reports. The right-wing candidate is thus doing far better than election polls had indicated. The main competitor is the incumbent Prime Minister, pro-European Marcel Ciolacu, who has 19.55 percent of the vote. He represents the centre-left. A total of 13 candidates stood for election in the first round of the presidential election. The second election round is on 8 December.
