45 pro-democracy activists known to be guilty of violating Hong Kong’s security law have been sentenced to prison. The longest sentence is ten years in prison. The trial is the largest since the strict security law was introduced in Hong Kong in 2020 to stop large-scale pro-democracy demonstrations the year before. Among those sentenced to prison is Benny Tai. He is designated as an organizer among the 47 pro-democracy activists who were arrested in 2021 on the grounds of the Security Act.
