Air traffic at Værnes has been affected by heavy fog until 4:30 p.m. After that, several planes have landed at the airport. – But the fog literally goes up and down, says airport manager Marit Helene Stigen to news. Thus, it is uncertain how the rest of the evening will be. A total of 42 arrivals and departures have today been cancelled. – We know that there are quite a few planes that will land and take off tonight. So it’s a bit of an unclear situation as it is now, says airport manager Marit Helene Stigen to news. Up to 14,000 travelers are affected by the dense fog. – We had hope in relation to the weather forecast that was at 16 today, but it is uncertain when planes can land and when the fog lifts. We just have to be patient. All travelers at the terminal must refer to information from their airlines, says Stigen. They were supposed to fly home to Mo i Rana at 12.45, but are still sitting at the airport. – The only thing we have been told is that it had been changed to 3pm, we were also told that it had been cancelled. Now we are just waiting for further information. We haven’t heard anything since then, says Jacobsen. – There is little you can do about the weather, but they could have given us a bit more information, of course, adds Olsen. They don’t believe they will get home today. Marthe Jacobsen and Marius Kristoffer Olsen are among those who cannot make it further from the airport. Should we wait for a new flight here or should we go back home and wait until tomorrow. She says that it has been many years since a situation like this last occurred. – The fact that there is fog at Værnes which has consequences for air traffic, it happens very rarely. At 15:15 there are a total of 15 planes affected by the fog. – They have either returned where they came from, or flew over Værnes and beyond, says Stigen. She continues: – Landing in the fog is challenging. No planes have landed since 11:30. Photo: Flightradar24 Adresseavisen wrote about the delays first. For now, the situation is unclear, and the airport manager hopes that the weather will improve for the evening rush hour. – We follow the weather forecast in close dialogue with the tower. There is a possibility in the notice that it will change after 4 p.m. Stigen encourages people to pay attention to the information coming from the airlines.
