23 June 2023 at 21:07 UN: 37 people missing after shipwreck between Tunisia and Italy 37 people are missing after their boat capsized between Tunisia and the Italian island of Lampedusa, says the IOM, which has spoken to four survivors. The UN organization says the survivors, who came from African countries south of the Sahara, arrived in Lampedusa on Thursday evening. They were rescued from the wreck by another vessel. The survivors have told IOM that they left the Tunisian port city of Sfax bound for Italy, in a boat with 46 people on board. The boat capsized in strong winds. They say that five of those on board were picked up by another boat. 37 are missing and feared dead. Among them are seven women and a child, IOM’s spokesperson told the Reuters news agency on Friday.
