The man must therefore be placed in a top-security psychiatric ward for an indefinite period, the court in Copenhagen has decided. The court found him guilty of all eleven charges against him. According to the verdict, the evidence pointed to the shooting at the shopping center being carefully planned, writes Danish TV2. Three people were killed in the shooting incident at the Field’s shopping center on Amager in Copenhagen on 3 July last year. Those killed were a boy and a girl aged 17 and a 46-year-old man. Several others were shot and wounded and others were injured in connection with the shooting. Altogether, the indictment against the man referred to 23 victims, writes Danmarks Radio. The 23-year-old was charged with murder and attempted murder. He was in possession of a rifle, ammunition and a knife when he was arrested. The public prosecutor’s office does not consider the mass shooting to be a terrorist attack. The man has acknowledged the facts, but denies criminal guilt and claims he was insane at the time of the crime. According to the man’s defender, the 23-year-old must now consider whether he wants to appeal the sentence. – We want to read the judgment before we decide on a possible appeal, says lawyer Luise Høj.
