2022 has been a year of accidents on Norwegian roads – we let three drivers take a new approach – news Oslo og Viken – Local news, TV and radio

How high in the hat would you be if you had to take the note again? Many of us take the paper as an 18-year-old. You study for the theory test and don’t look back after you’ve passed the test. Only halfway through 2022, more people have died in traffic than in the whole of last year. So are we as good drivers as we think we are? Many assessments must be made in traffic. Do you have a full overview of what is right? Photo: Ahmet Dogan / news To find out, news has challenged three random people. Now they will get to test themselves in a sort of run-up. We have rigged a traffic school car with cameras. You can see the highlights from the drive further down in the article. Our drivers, Thea (23), Linn-Jeanette (42) and Pål (59) will go through the same route, with the same sensor. The drive will last for half an hour and take them around Drammen. ROUTE: The approach will take drivers around and through the center of Drammen. All three have had the patch since before they were 20 years old. For two of them, that means several decades of driving experience. Nevertheless, only one of them passed the test that news has arranged for them. Who do you think will pass the run-up again? Thea (23) Linn Jeanette (42) Pål (59) Show result Thea (23) Of our three drivers, it is 23-year-old Thea Jenssen Refsland who is first out. Thea Jenssen Refsland won the prize in Egersund. Now she will try her hand at the Drammen traffic. Photo: AHMET DOGAN / news – I am very “straight on” and do not hesitate in traffic. I am also very good at correcting others if I see them making mistakes, she says. Her biggest challenge is that she now has to drive in an unfamiliar city. – Drammen is a completely new city for me. I haven’t driven much in big cities either, so I’m not used to traffic lights and one-way traffic. Thea has only had the car tag for three years, but she has been able to drive a moped for over eight. Now is the time to see if she has forgotten anything over the years. When she has finished, there is both rice and praise from the examiner. She is observant in the traffic picture, but also hangs too close to other motorists. She has forgotten some rules for traffic lights and roundabouts, and a little too often has only one hand on the steering wheel. When everything is added up, it ends in failure. After three years of driving alone, she failed the test again. Photo: Ahmet Dogan / news – It was unexpected. I was actually a bit shocked. This is not a real run-up, and of course she doesn’t lose the ticket, even if it ended in failure. But she takes some new lessons with her. – I learned new things about both roundabouts and traffic lights. That was the small part of where I took the note. Some of these rules I have only read on paper. Linn-Jeanette (42) The next one to go into the fire is 42-year-old Linn-Jeanette Gjertsen, who has had the label for 24 years. Linn-Jeanette Gjertsen has had the note for over two decades. Photo: Ahmet Dogan / news – I am a calm driver. Safe in traffic and likes to drive, she says. But now she feels the nervousness. – I am afraid of overthinking things and afraid of making mistakes. Suddenly you end up in a situation where it is unclear what to do. Her son is now practicing to take the theory test. She has taken the chance to see how well she would do on the theory test now. She tried one of the theory tests you can take online. – I crossed out many mistakes, but I did not completely agree with the answers. Now she will check whether she will do better on the run-up after all these years. She makes some criticism of her own driving when she has finished the run-up. Some difficult roundabouts and situations where you have to give way. However, the inspector is satisfied. – If it had been a real run-up, I would have said congratulations, he says. PASSED: – Nice to have it confirmed. Photo: Ahmet Dogan / news – It was very nice. Admittedly, there will be some minor quibbles. A little better use of mirrors, and she needs to look around a little more at roundabouts. – I’ve previously thought about taking a trip with a driving instructor, to see how I’m doing, so it was very nice to have it confirmed now that I can still drive a car. Pål (59) Sisteman out is 59-year-old Pål Harstad, who has a full 41 years behind the wheel. Pål Harstad has been driving a car for a lifetime. Photo: Ahmet Dogan / news – I am very safe in traffic. A pretty good driver who has started complaining about others, he says with a smile. Many of the complaints are about the same thing. – Hesitation, and missing indicators at roundabouts. That’s the worst. 99 percent of people are angry, but there is a lot that annoys. There is no lack of self-confidence, but he has self-awareness about it as well. – Those of us who are a little older probably feel a little more self-confident than we should. I feel that myself too. He has over four decades of driving experience, and will now test whether he has acquired any habits during those years. 40 in a 30 zone, 50 in a 40 zone, is too close to other cars, and too aggressive in some situations. The censor is not gentle in his judgement. It will be fast. It was not enough to pass. Photo: Ahmet Dogan / news – I think it was quite strict. That I drive a little too close to those in front, it’s a bit of my “flow”, that I don’t hesitate. At least I think so. Nevertheless, he realizes that he has probably acquired some habits over the years. – I have probably driven the same route a thousand times and made the same mistakes a thousand times. Would you have passed if you had to go up again? Yes of course! I’m a good driver Yes, think so, but would have been nervous for sure No, I’m actually not sure Show result
