The country is struggling with a lack of cash, high inflation, high crime and violent attacks by jihadists in the north of the country. A total of 18 presidential candidates are standing in this year’s election in Africa’s most populous country. 87 million voters have the right to vote. The two dominant parties, APC and PDP, each field a candidate. But this year, a third candidate has intervened. It is Labour’s Peter Obi, who has the support of many young people, writes the BBC. For the APC, former governor of the big city of Lagos, Bola Tinubu, stands, and for the PDP, former vice-president Atiku Abubakar tops the list.
