18 arrested for elder fraud since September – news Norway – Overview of news from various parts of the country

– The police have arrested six people. They are charged with complicity in several gross frauds, says police attorney Nicolai Skjold to news. The frauds have been carried out by the victims being called by someone pretending to be the police or bank employees. Three of the accused were remanded in custody for two weeks on Friday with a ban on letters and visitors. This is revealed in the rulings from the Oslo District Court. One of them, a man in his 20s, has acknowledged the actual circumstances, according to the court. He has explained that he was threatened to commit the acts. – However, the court believes that there is a preponderance of probability that he was not in an emergency situation. It is indicated that this went on for a month, and that he had the opportunity to contact the police, the imprisonment order states. Other people then turned up at the victim’s address, and collected their bank cards and telephones. – They are advised to give up their bank card. Asked to stay isolated from the overworld. And then the perpetrators have drained their account of money, says Skjold. – How many victims are there in this case so far? – The circle that has the status of suspect in this case is linked to a double-digit number of gross frauds in the Oslo area in the last two months. Does not plead guilty A woman and two men will appear on Friday for imprisonment. The three are all in their 20s, and are charged with complicity in defrauding the elderly. In addition, two more people were arrested on Friday afternoon. The six arrested persons are linked to a total of over ten gross frauds, in addition to other criminal offences. – Recently, we have noticed that this environment has been so active that new cases have come up almost daily. That is also the reason why we have campaigned in the way we do now, says Skjold. The public prosecutor’s office requests that the three accused, who are produced for imprisonment on Friday, be remanded in custody for two weeks with a ban on letters and visits. The woman who was arrested on Thursday does not plead guilty, her defender, Unni Fries, told news. Nor do the two men plead guilty, according to their defenders Helene Elness and Bjørn Rudjord. 58 home frauds this year A total of 18 people have been arrested for elderly fraud since 1 September. The police believe these people are connected to various networks, and that several criminal networks are operating at the same time, according to Sorter. In 2024, the Oslo police district uncovered 58 fraudulent home visits. 36 of these have happened since 30 August, says section leader Mikael Sorter in Enhet Vest. 6 fraud home visits to the elderly have thus taken place since news mentioned the wave of fraud last time, on 1 October.
