But at the beginning of July he was released. The investigation into the case came to an end, and the police believed that custody was no longer absolutely necessary. The boy ended up in a child welfare institution. He had also lived here when the robberies were committed. He is under the care of child protection because he has no family in Norway. Charged with rape But at the beginning of September he was arrested again. This time charged with rape of a minor boy on 31 August. The charge was later also extended to cover sexual relations with children between 14 and 16 years of age. It has a penalty of up to 6 years in prison. The district court wanted to release When the 16-year-old was produced for custody at the beginning of September, the Oslo district court believed that there was reason to suspect him of the rape. It was based, among other things, on the explanation from the offended boy. Nevertheless, the Oslo district court ruled in favor of release. They thought the risk of recurrence was not great enough. The police disagreed, and appealed the case further to the Court of Appeal. Here they were successful. The 16-year-old appealed the case further to the Supreme Court, but they rejected the appeal. Since 9 September, he has been in custody in a youth prison. Risk of repetition Earlier this month, the 16-year-old faced charges in the Oslo district court for violence, seven Vipps robberies, two other robberies and for having hashish in his room. While the boy was in court, the detention ended. The police asked for an extension, but the district court wanted to release him again. This time with so-called duty to report; that he should report to the police frequently. If he got out, child protection would place him in an emergency facility. The police appealed once more. And the boy was imprisoned for two more weeks. The Court of Appeal pointed to the seriousness with which the 16-year-old is charged and the great risk of repetition against minors. Some investigation remains The police now state that a good part of the investigation into the rape case has been completed. – But we are still waiting for certain analyses, and we will also question the 16-year-old again, says investigative leader Hilde Hermanrud Strand. In the meantime, a verdict is expected against the 16-year-old for, among other things, the Vipps robberies to which he has essentially confessed. Published 03.11.2024, at 08.33
